Doing 20 days of Water Fasting. Starting October 17, 2010
Reasons for Fasting:
Hello All, Just looking for a little support, as I post my progress and hope to get through this with only positive outcomes. Starting Weight 150 Current Weight: 141 No. of days on water-only fast: Today is day 3 Symptoms Experienced: Fatigue, slight dizziness when sometimes standing. Hunger pangs/tummy grumbles. I’m not sure what my goal is with this fast beyond the weight loss. I hope it becomes a spiritual journey as well. I have had some hunger pangs but nothing yet a little patience can handle. This is my first fast ever and though I’ve read the cautions, I’m in a remote location where it’s not possible to do fresh juice or even lemon fasts; I don’t have access to a juicer or large quantities of fruit even. Anyway, prior to this I was working out regularly, eating veggies, meats, legumes, and fruits but not really watching portions. I’m not addicted to any stimulants; I had already long ago stopped drinking caffeine or diet products. Just eating three solid meals a day. And the scale wasn’t moving. I had reduced calories prior to the fast and started looking up all methods of weight loss. Well, yes I’m a little impatient and stubborn and after researching extensively on water fasts, I feel I can handle it. I haven’t had any headaches or major symptoms yet, so I hope that’s a good sign. I will take it to 10 days, and see how I’m feeling and how the scale is. I have been concerned about hair loss if I decide to take the fast longer than 10-14 days. I wanted to get to 120 pounds, which may be unrealistic, but that will be to offset normal weight gain when coming off the fast. Hope I can make it.Past Fasting Experience:

Hi Luna,
Getting to 120 lbs is realistic. Having some lemon with raw honey in water during a water fast here and there will keep your electrolites levels healthy. I am not sure if you can find a juicer in Iraq but if you can a few days of juicing along that way will assist your reaching your goals increase health and safety.
Thanks Tom, I’ll keep this in mind especially since I’m experiencing low energy. I think a little of it is mind games I’m playing on myself. I know that I’m not eating, so I think that I cannot do too much. I have a desk job so nothing strenuous going on and my mind feels alert and fine. I do have regular dance lessons, so tonight I will see how it feels to exercise. If it’s too much, I’ll stop.

No. of days on water-only fast: Today is day 5
Symptoms: Fatigue, slight dizziness when sometimes standing. Bad breath (also in previous days). Feverishness and stuffy head. I’ve read the elevation in temperature is normal. Chilliness (also normal).
I danced yesterday and I think it was a bit too much but I was able to get through an hour and a half. I could feel my heart working over-time though. I will refrain from so much activity and maybe do light walks in the future.
Hi Luna, Good luck with the water fast, I only do juice fasts as I find them so much easier than water and always have an enema every 2 or 3 days so as to help in getting rid of the toxins and control hunger. I know many people dont like talking about colon cleaning , but for me its an essential part of the fast and really helps in many ways. Can u not get a used juicer on ebay where u are? good luck Noor
Hi Luna,
Keep it going, from what I read it sounds like you are doing great. From my experiences I feel that the longer you go the easy it gets. Just remember the hunger pangs always go away.
Thanks!

No. of days on water-only fast: Today is day 7
Symptoms: Same symptoms as previously mentioned however fatigue has lessened. I went to brush my teeth (on a military camp) and I suppose doing my hair, raising my arms for too long, caused me to almost blackout. Got down on one knee and then went back to my room to rest…whew! Also looks like my weight loss has slowed down considerably, but 15 pounds in 7 days makes me pretty happy.

Symptoms: Feeling weak whenever moving about so getting loads of rest.

Current Weight: 132
No. of days on water-only fast: Today is day 10
Symptoms: Seem to have better energy but still have to be careful and not move about too quickly or it makes me weak/dizzy. The most annoying things mentally is the feeling of emptiness, but doesn’t seem to be the same as outright hunger.
I probably won’t be posting daily, only upon significant changes. I’ve hit the half-way mark and I’m not sure I’ll reach my goal weight by the time I hit 20 days so I may increase as needed.

I’m thinking I will indeed stop after 20 days and hope that I’m at least 125 by then. My face has gotten so thin (it always was, even when I was heavier). Anyway, I have such a greater appreciation for food and cannot wait for this to be over. I do worry about losing control when coming out of the fast so I try to think only about having soup and fruits and vegetables.
Hi luna23
Best thing you can do is join a gym or train at home when you finish your fast, many people make the mistake in going back to their old ways incluiding myself.
You are not alone in feling this way.

Looks like I’ll make it to a solid 125 and then start easing back into my healthy diet, with a plan of working out 3-4 days a week. Almost done! I’ll change my picture to a before/after shortly and also post an update next month on how things are going.
Hi Luna
Congrats on making your goal. I have followed your status since I found this website as you were inspiring. Good Luck with breaking fast and the healthy lifestyle afterwards. I have some of the same fears that I will fall back into the same old habbits. We will need a little luck, faith, and Inspiration.
Thanks for that.
Thanks Clauso, it certainly wasn’t easy but I believe it was very much worth it. I will do my best to maintain because I would prefer not to do this again for a loooong time
Hi Luna…
Haaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaa. Me Too. I am on day 14 and can’t wait til the goal is completed.
Best Of Luck…I know I’m gonna need it.
Hi Clauso

I will be fasting for fathers for justice.
Blessings Keith.
So I’ve posted a picture with results, me at 150 and now 130. I was at 125 and quickly went to 130 once I started eating again. I’ve been eating veggies, fruits, nuts, a little meat, egg whites, and at first juice but now only water. Anyway, I am taking it day by day and have started counting calories and watching the scale daily to figure out how much my body is burning what I’m eating. I plan on doing moderate exercise 4 times a week and I do yoga daily with a morning program for 25 minutes. The problem is I work all day long but sit on my butt all day long at a desk job. My goal is to stay within 127-130 pounds and maintain. I’ll be very happy if I can stay in this range and I’ll post an update at the beginning of December.
Hi Luna,
Thanks for all the updates and the pics. I think we need to code before and after pics into the site.
I’ve been meaning to post an update. I have stayed at around 130. I recommend for anyone that has lost weight using fasting and is now looking for a way to eat healthy yet eat whatever they want in moderation to read Intuitive Eating http://www.amazon.com/Intuitive-Eating-Practical-Yourself-Chronic/dp/1591796822
It has freed me from always thinking about food and dieting. I no longer count calories, but rather listen to my body’s signals and refrain from restrictive eating plans. Good luck to all.
Hi Luna
Love that book cover. That is my direction also… to follow the body.
