Cayenne Pepper – Weightloss- Fasting
Cayenne Pepper- Weight loss
It is considered thermogenic, meaning it can “rev up” metabolism and aid in weight loss. The reason this post was created was due to the increased weight loss experienced by fasters who were experiencing extremely slow weight loss rates during fasting. With the addition of cayenne pepper the weight loss rate increased that seems to indicate that cayenne pepper’s thermogenic effect is amplified during fasting. This also validates the therapeutic value of the “Master Cleanse” which uses cayenne pepper with Maple Syrup.
Cayanne Pepper – Cardio Vascular
Cayenne pepper may help normalize blood pressure and body temperature, regulate heart rhythm, increase blood circulation. Cayenne pepper may stop bleeding when applied to wounds. Attributed Medicinal Properties for cardio vascular conditions are numerous. It reduces the likelihood of developing arteriosclerosis by reducing blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Cayenne also reduces the platelet aggregation and increases fibrinolytic activity. Cultures consuming a large amount of Cayenne pepper have a much lower rate of cardiovascular disease. Cayenne was frequently used historically to treat diseases of the circulatory system. It is still traditionally used in herbal medicine as a circulatory tonic (a substance believed to improve circulation) in many cultures.
Capsicum (cayenne pepper) is said to be unequal for its ability to boost circulation and increase heart action. Capsicum exerts a variety of desirable actions on the entire cardiovascular system. It has the extraordinary ability to enhance cardiovascular performance while actually lowering blood pressure. Capsicum has an energizing effect on the entire system. It has traditionally been used for overcoming fatigue and restoring stamina and vigor. It is a natural stimulant without the threatening side effects (palpitations, hyper-activity or rise in blood pressure) of most other stimulating agents.
Capsicum in Cayenne Pepper boosts peripheral circulation and stimulates organ secretion, expediting the therapeutic delivery and action of nutrients in the body. The remarkable ability of Capsicum to stimulate organ secretion and even heart action makes it one of the strongest natural stimulants known.
Cayenne has been known to stop heart attacks within 30 seconds. For example, when a 90-year-old man in Oregon had a severe heart attack, his daughter was able to get Cayenne extract into his mouth. He was pronounced dead by the medics, but within a few minutes, he regained consciousness. On the way to the hospital, he remained in a semi-conscious state, but the daughter kept giving him the Cayenne extract. By the time they got to the hospital, he had fully recovered and wanted to go home and mow the lawn.
Cayenne Pepper- Vasodialation-
Lowers Blood Pressure
Cayenne Pepper is considered to be a vasodilator. Vasodilation refers to the widening of blood vessels resulting from relaxation of smooth muscle cells within the vessel walls, particularly in the large arteries, smaller arterioles and large veins. When vessels dilate, the flow of blood is increased due to a decrease in vascular resistance. Therefore, dilation of arterial blood vessels (mainly arterioles) leads to a decrease in blood pressure.
Cayenne Pepper – Gastrointestinal
Cayenne Pepper may heal ulcers and improve digestive system. Cayenne has been used as medicine for centuries for various conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, including stomachaches, cramping pains, and gas. Cayenne can rebuild the tissue in the stomach and the peristaltic action in the intestines. It aids elimination and assimilation, and helps the body to create hydrochloric acid, which is so necessary for good digestion and assimilation, especially of proteins.
Cayenne Pepper –
Rheumatism & Arthritis
Rubbed onto the skin, Cayenne Pepper is a traditional, as well as modern, remedy for rheumatic pains and arthritis due to what is termed as a “counterirritant” effect. A counterirritant is something that causes irritation to a tissue to which it is applied, thus distracting from the original irritation (such as joint pain in the case of arthritis).
Cayenne Pepper –
Cooling Effect
Many people consume lots of hot peppers in tropical climates such as India and Mexico as the heat produced by eating spiced food will induce perspiration, which actually helps a person to cool off. This cooling effect is due to Vasodilation causes by Cayenne Pepper occurs in superficial blood vessels of warm-blooded animals when their ambient environment is hot; this process diverts the flow of heated blood to the skin of the animal, where heat can be more easily released into the atmosphere.
Cayenne Pepper-
Pain Reduction
Cayenne helps to relieve pain, not only due to its endorphin enhancing properties, but also when diluted and used topically it helps to block the transmission of substance P, which transports pain messages to the brain. Cayenne contains a pungent resin-like substance known as capsaicin. This chemical, the active ingredient of pepper spray or mace, relieves pain and itching by affecting sensory nerves. Capsaicin temporarily causes various neurotransmitters to release from these nerves, leading to their depletion. Without the neurotransmitters, pain signals can no longer be sent. The effect is temporary.
Cayenne Pepper-
Headaches
The reducing in headaches with the usage of cayenne pepper may be attributed to vascular dilation as many headaches can be caused b y vascular constriction. This may prove helpful in reducing the headaches caused by caffeine withdrawals during fasting as caffeine withdrawals cause vascular constriction.
When you get a headache, the blood vessels in your head swell, putting pressure against your skull. That’s where the pain comes from… the pressure. Sometimes when you have a throbbing headache, that’s actually your blood pumping through the swollen vessels. Cayenne pepper is a stimulant and vascular dilator reducing pressure in the arteries causing the swelling to go down.
Cayenne Pepper-
Memory
Fasting commonly increases concentration and memory which maybe additionally enhanced by the usage of Cyanne Pepper during fasting.
Cayenne Pepper –
Mucus
Cayenne Pepper reduces the mucus from colds and coughs.
Cayenne Pepper –
Dyspepsia
In a recent letter to the editors of the New England Journal of Medicine, three Italian doctors describe how they were able to reduce patients’ reported dyspepsia symptoms by more than half – by prescribing red pepper powder. In a study of 30 patients with functional dyspepsia, half of the participants received a placebo, while the other half took 2.5 grams of red pepper powder each day (divided into capsules taken before each of three meals). Both groups took their respective treatments for five weeks, and rated their symptoms each day on a scale of zero to three (higher scores indicated more severe symptoms). By the third week, the red pepper group showed a significant advantage over the control group. And by week five, the pepper group’s symptoms had declined 60 percent from their baseline scores – while the control group’s scores had only decreased about half as much. The symptom scores included ratings for pain, a feeling of fullness, nausea, and an overall score. The red pepper powder produced significant gains in all four areas.
Cayenne Pepper –
Active Medicinal Ingredients
Cayenne’s primary chemical constituents include capsaicin, capsanthine, beta carotene, flavonoids, and vitamin C. Cayenne causes the brain to secrete more endorphins. Cyanne Pepper is a very high source of Vitamins A and C, has the complete B complexes, and is very rich in organic calcium and potassium.
Tom. Or anyone. How do you suggest we incorporate this pepper into out fasts? Do we mix it with our water or ?? I’m really confused!!
Hi Lisa,
I think the best way is to take it in capsules. You can also mix it with lemon and some natural sweetener.
There are some comment about people taking it in the last few weeks. We need to do some tests on how much.
So whatever you do let us know.
I use cayenne pepper all the time.I put a table spoonful in a cup of warm water and drink daily. I got home from the gym one day and was sore all over,I took cayenne pepper tea and went to bed 20 minutes later…in the morning I was full of energy,no pain or soreness. I use it when I have heart burns, indigestion or head aches and it works for me. I noticed that I lose more weight when I take it while fasting. Hope this helps anyone.
I have been on a water fast for three days and just decided to try out the cayenne pepper thing because I had a meeting to lead and was worried about my sluggish energy level. I put 1 teaspoon of honey, the juice of one lemon and a teaspoon of cayenne in 8ox of water. I could only drink about 4oz because it was so spicy going down–especially after only water. I am thinking that capsuls would be the way to go for most people. I am half Mexican though and the flavor reminded me of some of my favorite Mexican treats, so even though it was tough to take down, I enjoyed it. My stomach still feels a little unsettled though, but not bad and I feel amazingly alert and energetic now. I now feel like I can get through the next two days of my water fast with this little trick up my sleeve for extra energy. I will let you know if it seemed to speed up my weight loss at all, as I know many people are interested in that aspect. I lost 3 pounds after 2 and a half days so we;ll see. This has been any interesting journey. I had never thought about doing a long term fast before, but I tell you: I love the sense of smell more than ever and my mellow mood is fantastic.
My biggest complaints are: Preparing food for my kids, occasional small headaches, dizzy and light headed feeling when I move too fast, and I am so cold most of the time!
Tom, why am I cold so much now? My dad just passed away form Pancreatic cancer and seemed to be literally skin and bones and he was always bundles up even on the hottest day–what is happening when your body can’t or isn’t taking in food that makes me cold? Thanks!
Hi Liv
Everyone gets cold easily during a fast as digestion produces lots of heat. Terminal cancer patients can be hot or cold. The cancer uses 10 fold more glucose and leaves the body with nothing. If you start to black out get down on one knee, quickly.
Thanks for the answer Tom. One thing I am learning through this fast is to appreciate, really appreciate the fight my father had with his cancer. He must have felt miserable the majority of the time (almost 2 years) and it must have been so hard for him.
Just to update on the cayenne pepper thing. Even though I took it last night, I think it may be too soon to tell if it added to my weight loss. I lost 2 more lbs (same as the day before) and am now down to 130 even. I will take the other four ounces this morning before I take the kids to the park, then I may mix up a little more this afternoon as I get to work on a new to-do list as Eileen suggested.
I am just beginning day four and feel pretty good. I do switch quickly between hot and cold. My face and core are always warm, even hot sometimes, but my hands and feet are freezing. I am guessing that might also have something to do with the blood staying closer to organs for protection or something? I don’t feel nearly as lightheaded like I did on day two, which is great. I am so excited to get my juicer tomorrow. I’ll break my water fast tomorrow evening (to make five days total. and then begin my two day juice fast. I wish it could be longer but things will begin to get very busy Sunday and Tuesday I begin to teach some intense dance classes so I am trying to be wise with my body.
I already bought my produce though (for the juicing)and am trying to decide what kind of juice to try first–I am thinking carrot with apple since it sounds filling and gentle.
Cheers everyone!
Liv
Is cayenne pepper & red chili peppers the same thing?
Hi Nikki
Chili Powder is a mix of chili pepper powder and other spices like cumin and garlic powder and sometimes other spices like cinnamon or nutmeg (no lie). But chili powder can be really hot depending on the ratio and kind of chiles to other ingredients in the mix. Also, paprika and cayenne can be components of chili powder.
Chili pepper (from nahuatl chilli), also known as, or spelled, chilli pepper, chilli, chillie, chili, and chile, is the fruit[1] of the plants from the genus Capsicum, members of the nightshade family, Solanaceae.
So the are from the same family but… peppers are complex. Still studying.
I found cayenne pepper in a liguid form, I also found a pill of cayenne fruit…Im not sure what that is or if it is the same thing…
How much of the liquid form should I use?
Thanks Jess
2-4 drops per 8oz. should be sufficient and all that most people can tolerate due to the heat.
when combined with a few drops of hawthorne berry extract it enhances the vasodilating effect of the cayenne. very good for any circulatory problems including varicose veins.
hope that helps! 🙂
I am currently on a 30 day juice fast, the second prolonged fast I’ve undertaken. I completed an 80 day juice fast back in 2008. This time around I am taking cayenne pepper 3-4 times a day in liquid form, sometimes in water and other times with my freshly squeezed juice. I noticed my weight loss this time is much more rapid which I attribute to the cayenne because nothing else has changed when compared to my initial prolonged fast. I have thus far lost 12.4 lbs in the first seven days!
2triky, that’s good to know about the cayenne pepper! I’ve read that it works for many people but I have never tried it steadily, enough to see if it makes a difference in weight loss for me, probably because I only drank it once a day, but 3 or 4 times sounds like the ticket. After reading your testimony, now I think will try that with my fast as well. Awesome!
All the best,
Jamie
Hello Jamie,
Sorry for my belated reply. Thank you for your response. Yes, I believe cayenne is an effective tool to enhance weight loss while fasting, based on my personal experience. Obviously its benefits extend well beyond that in terms of its well known detoxification properties, but the added weight loss is definitely a plus. I am currently on day 18 of my fast and I am quite pleased to say I’ve already lost almost 21 pounds, without any exercise mind you. I encourage you to try it if only for the enhance detoxification because cayenne pepper helps to clear out toxins from your body effectively. I imagine that taking the cayenne while fasting has a synergistic effect in that regard amplifying the benefits for the users, as stated in this article.
I wish you ascending health,
Triky
I’ve been adding lemon juice, honey and Tabasco to my water. Does this have the same effect as cayenne pepper or should I really be using cayenne pepper instead? I also drink ginger, lemon juice and honey in water? Does this also have the same effect?
Hi Oikle,
One doctor of natural medicine that I know who is a big enthusiast of peppers to stimulate the metabolism, states that any hot pepper is good and the hotter the better. Mostly I see research on cayenne pepper. To me this needs further study.
Hi Oikle
Im back LOL. I havn’t been hiding, iv been posting my water fasting videos on youtube. Tomorrow is day 3 of a 40 day water fast. I will try and drag my videos from youtube and post them on my site later in the week so tht you guys get some ideas!! and watch me wither into a stick insect lol.
I have read up on the benefits on cayenne pepper {THE BENEFITS ARE VAST} You can take cayenne pepper in pill form from a chemist, cayenne benefits go back thousands of years.
Iv been watching some of your posts on this site, they are quite moving and heartfelt.
Blessings Keith.
Hi Keith,
Glad to see you’re back :). Sorry for the delay in responding. Have had my head stuck in books for the last week. Just saw your post re your blog site. Hoping to get some time to check them out over the weekend. They sound great. How’s your water fast going so far? Day 8 am I right?
LOL re my posts. Yeah I tend to be like that. I was an extremely broken person before I discovered Christ and the change he has made in my life in such a short period of time is way beyond my wildest dreams. I still have a very long way to go but this fast has done a lot to helping me see just a little more light :).
Hi Oikle
Its good that you are studying religion. I was going to be studying Divinity at university but I keep holding it of, dont know why?…Maby I am just not ready yet?.
I am on day 7 first week in lol. I have had problems uploading day 6, going to try again today I the problem is at youtube end.
Blessing Keith.
Hi Keith, Are you using “flash” files to upload? If you can convert to Adobe flash “FLV” you will upload in a breeze!
Here is a free converter.
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Video-to-Flash-Converter.htm
Hi Ron
I got so fed up I went out today and bought a HD web cam that links to youtube, they are expensive to buy.
I have Adobe flash, not sure if i have it up to date? i will follow your link.
I managed to upload day 6-7 on youtube and i will drag them to my site shortly, but they are from my old cam, just uploading HD now
Blessings Keith.
Hey Keith, You probably have Adobe Flash “Reader”. That’s free. They charge for the converter! But, if you have the HD web cam the software w/ that should fix you up!
Hope all is well w/ your fast.
I had a strange thing happen yesterday. I went to a friends house, and his dog (that knows and played w/ me previously) couldn’t stop growling, or get used to me! I was shocked! Normally dogs are very attracted to me. I’ve never in my life had that happen!
When I left, I realized what “I think” was the problem! I’m on my 4th week of my fast. I bet she was unsettled because I had absolutley no smell of food coming off my body!! It makes sense, because when I’m fasting I can smell food coming from the pores of peoples’ skin! I can’t even be in the room with someone who just ate at Mc’y D’s!! Imagine how much more a dogs keen sense of smell must be! Just a thought! But then again, she may be possesed by a demon that doesn’t like fasting!! LOL!! Either way.. I got her a bone for my visit tomorrow! God Bless, Ron
LOL Ron
I hope it wasn’t your drummers dog, that you were joking about months ago LOL. That would be a great post on youtube {DOG FROM HELL EATS JUICE FASTER}…LOL.
Yeah im doing fine day 8 tomorrow. I Will be cooking a romantic meal for my mother and boyfriend on Sunday for mothers day. I hear that mothers day is in may in America?
I have my new cam set up now so i am happy. I was up late last night trying to upload videos on youtube to no avail, but i got day 6-7 uploaded but it was a bit rushed as i didn’t think it would upload.
I am looking forward to day 21 when things start to happen, as in Spiritual insight, and total peace.
Blessings Keith
LOL Keith! There’s your Youtube thought for the day mate!
I can “feed” (pardon the pun) you stories like that for at least forty days!! LOL
Yeah Ron LOL
I have been on the phone for 3 hours to get help repair my pc from talk talk. I have no time to upload day 8 yet i will do it soon.
I have been prepping the meal that im making for my mum and her boyfriend for mothers day tomoz, the smells are amazing LOL.
Blessings Keith.
So would it be OK to take Cayenne Capsules during a water-only fast? I don’t want to mess it up at all and reset any progress.
Also, I have some ghost pepper (Bhut Jolokia) hotsauce, I’m assuming this is a no-no since it has some other stuff in it, and would have a caloric value of some kind. Thought of this when you said “hotter the better”
Hi ecidemon
Yes it is ok to put cayenne capsules in your water, but open the capsules and pour the powder into the water.
Blessings Keith.
Can we use Paprika? I am in Bangladesh now and can’t get a hold of Cayenne
Hi Shaun
No Paprika will not work. I am sure there are hot peppers in Bangladesh.
Hi Shaun,
Don’t know if this is still helpful to you but cayenne is called Lal Mirch or Laal Mirch in Bengali. Mirch is a generic for pepper and I use Deggi Mirch for a lot of my cooking and it is pretty spicy if you can’t find the cayenne.
Hope this helps.

Would it be safe to assume that one could juice a hot pepper with their other veggies & fruits and get the same benefits? I understand that it wouldn’t be as concentrated as say capsicum extract, but also might there be other benefits associated with using the pepper fresh? Any insight? Thanks!
Hi Joy, I was wondering the same thing…
