Fasting Progress Report – Angelia

Reasons for Fasting: I started as an emotional response to a really unflattering picture posted on Facebook, after a couple of days I really put some research into fasting and decided to go full bore. I’m fasting to lose weight, slow the aging process and detoxify my body.

Intended Length of Fast: I’m not sure, I am giving myself until the end of July, 2010 and then reassess where I want to go from there.

First Name: Angelia

(Optional) Last Name:

Site User Name: Bunnymuffin

City, State and Country: Seattle, WA USA

Sex: F

Age: 42

Weight: 209 (233 at the beginning.)

Height: 5’4”

Proposed Fasting Method: Water

Past Fasting Experience: Some week long fasts here and there.

Present Diet: SAD with extra helping of veggies and diet soda.

Relevant Medical History: No health issues other than obesity.

Present Medical Problems: N/A

State of Mind: I know I can do this and I will make my end of the month goal. Since I’m a numbers type of person I am getting frustrated that the numbers are slowing down and have added cayenne in liquid form and Hawthorn Berry extract to my water three times a day to see if I can’t rev things back up. At day nine I am still tired a lot, have bouts of hunger and a coated tongue. I figure I must have really messed up the body and am taking my lumps like a man. :)

Limitations: Many of my friends are Hindu and fasting is a normal thing for them, but occasionally I still get a friend that will get upset at me for not eating and lecture me about nutrients. It can be frustrating to be at a gathering and have to defend myself but at the same time I don’t want to be a shut in either. My biggest challenge will be this weekend when I will be baking a lot (last time it was 7 lbs) of cookies to send to Hawaii in the luggage of a teenage boy and in August if I am still fasting I am planning on having a dinner party for my mother featuring East Indian fare.

I am on day 12 now and still feeling tired a lot. I’m down another 3 lbs since starting the progress report and feel confident that I will meet my end of month goal. The baking is going well, I’m in a kitchen full of sweet treats and I don’t even have the desire to lick my fingers.

There is still a little brain fog going on, I forgot to add baking soda to my first batch and couldn’t understand why the cookies weren’t spreading properly. :)

Day 13, second day of baking. Still no desire to lick spoons or eat any baked goods. I have about 20 lbs of cookies and brownies stacked in my cupboards. Tomorrow will be the last day and then I will be shipping all of the goodies out of my house.

I am noticing a slow down in weight loss, I have been using liquid cayenne but bought capsules and have been taking double doses to get the heat up. I am also wondering if my impending maintenance status causes water retention even during fasting?

Day 14, two full weeks of water. Skin is amazing now, almost clear and needs very little makeup. Still having bouts of hunger, hit hardest tonight when I was making Butter Chicken. Got through it barely, good news is company is leaving tomorrow and then there will be no more luxury cooking.

Energy is getting better, I’ve been on my feet most of the last 3 days without too much rest.

    Thanks Danie Kay,
I really wasn’t sure anyone was reading besides me. Decided it would be good to pretend to be accountable to someone else.

Today is Day 16 and even though I spend all day yesterday running to and from the airport, shopping and hanging out with cute goofy boys I am stalled. I don’t know whether I can attribute to the fact I didn’t drink much until after I got home or if I am retaining water due to TOM.

I am frustrated to see the scale sit there only 5 days before my goal and am worried that I won’t make it. I think I will try adding an evening walk to my routine and see if that gets things moving.

      Hi Bunnymuffin
This site does about 1/2 mill visitors per year so although few comment everything gets read over and over. Wei9ghtloss can slow down during fasting.
I am working on a weightloss supplementation guide for stubborn fat but it is taking time.

If you don’t mind, would you list your starting weight and current weight? Thank you.

    Hi bunnymuffin!

Some fasters like just reporting. Some are looking for fasting buddies. Others have questions. If you do ask a question…Tom, Keith or myself will usually answer within a day!

Like Tom, I have also been reading your posts! You seem like an experienced faster! How did you happen into fasting?

    Welcome! And happy fasting! Ron

    Hello everyone,

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.

Tom, my weight loss has definitely slowed down this week. The cayenne doesn’t seem to be helping, but my energy has returned enough to afford some nice long walks. Good luck with the supplementation guide, I look forward to reading it!

Danie, I started at 233 and I am currently at 204.8, I’m on Day 17 of this fast and I really love the way my skin looks. I was hoping to break 200 by the end of the month but that doesn’t look like it will happen.

Ron, this is my first fast and the first two weeks were rough. I went cold turkey after seeing a really unflattering picture posted on Facebook and just couldn’t stomach food for a couple of days.

Then I decided to do some research and read about the benefits of water fasting; the weight loss, the anti aging properties, the detoxification and the over all lightness of being that people reported and I wanted that! And I’m stubborn, if I decide I can do something then I will do it. Part of my charm. :)

Hi Angelia, Wow water fasting on your first fast?! You are “stubborn”! And brave!

Remember, you can always switch to juice at some point and still lose weight, and get lots of other benefits also! I usually switch back and forth over a long fast. I work, so water fasting exclusively is out. After a few days of water, I can appreciate some healing juices.

One of the joys of fasting is there are no rules!! You can taylor make it for yourself!!

Please feel free to ask us anything you are having problems with, or unsure about. Good luck, and God Bless! Ron

    Hi Ron,

I am stubborn, since birth I’m told. I’ve started adding walks into my day to try and release this stall. It’s Day 19 and I’m still at the 204 mark. I am certain I’m not going to meet my end of month goal and I’m pretty sure/almost/hoping that my monthly cycle slowed it down and once I’m done all this water will whoosh right out of my cells. So I know I will be fasting into August for sure and really at this point a 30 day fast isn’t such a big deal anymore is it? :)

I’m starting my boy on a juice fast, he is easing into it slowly. It’s hard for teenagers to fast when their buddies are over so I made a light dinner and told him no pressure.

    Cheers!

It’s Day 20 and my weight has gone up! How does fasting and a six mile walk add up to a weight gain? Seriously? All the trolls on the weight loss boards always say that all you need to do to lose weight is put the fork down and exercise.

Okay for 20 days its been water, B1, Biotin, CoQ10, Cayenne and Hawthorn Berry extract with a little Black Strap Molasses in the Hawthorn Berry. The last few days there has been no Hawthorn Berry, just supplements and water. Am I in starvation mode? I can’t be retaining that much water this late in TOM, this just doesn’t make sense. Is this something I should have expected? I haven’t seen any references to any weight gain on a water fast.

    Trying not to freak out,
    Angelia

    Hi Bunnymuffin,
A combination of juice fasting followed by a hi fiber diet and exercise is the best for long term weight loss. I have found that people with a slow metabolism lose weight very slowly on a juice fast or even water fasting. Any weight gain is due to water balance than can fluctuate during the day.

To be in starvation mode you have to be starving and not possible with body fat.

One thing to keep in mind is that during a fast your body is healing and resting.

There are a many weightless formula that I believe that would be more effective with fasting but most are expensive. If you have a budget for your program, we can look into what may work.
