Doing 30 days of Juice/Water Fasting. Starting May 1, 2011
Reasons for Fasting:
Detoxification, weight loss, self-reflection.Past Fasting Experience:
My first fast ever was almost a year ago, 60 days on water. I gained a new-found respect for my body. I did another fast in November, water again.Present Diet:
I've been eating healthier since the fasts. However, in an effort to help my strength training, I've been eating heavier and less healthy the last few months.Supplements:
Vitamins, spirulina & chlorella, EFA, and sometimes whey isolates.Relevant Medical History:
I'm one of those people that loses some hair during a water fast, annoys me to no end. Also, after a 14+ days fast, when breaking the fast, my feet and ankles get a bit bloated, storing a lot of water. No idea why, it passes. The only other medical condition I have is that my left optical nerve died from blood deprivation a long time ago. Unfortunate series of events. I keep hoping to fix it, somehow.State of Mind:
I have such a hard time starting a fast. Been trying to start this one since January. Always want to give myself one more day, finish the remaining food in the fridge, buy that great deal at the market etc. Lots of excuses making me unable to lead-in to the fast, I need to go cold turkey. Usually set myself a challenge. First fast, to see if I could do it. Second fast, see if I could go an entire month without spending anything on groceries. This fast, multiple reasons. Once I start fasting though, my mind is clear and unwavering.Questions:
I kept from juice-fasting simply because I have no idea what to make. Almost everything tastes nice with a few apples, but that would make for a very one-sided juice-fast. I have yet to find a list of recipes that complement one another as far as nutrients go, so that I can make a weekly menu with enough variety in vitamins and minerals. Any advice? Also, I'm going to try to continue my workouts. I'll stop the high cardio for now, but I'd like to keep doing my gymnastics work. I'm thinking of taking my whey supplements during the fast. It's liquid, so it shouldn't break the fast, right?
