Commercially, Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a by-product of the wood industry. But unknown to many, it is a very powerful anti-cancer substance with a very low toxicity.
DMSO Background
The pharmaceutical history of DMSO began in 1961, when Dr. Jacob was head of the organ transplant program at Oregon Health Sciences University. It all started when he first picked up a bottle of this colorless liquid. While investigating its potential as a preservative for organs, he quickly discovered that it penetrated the skin quickly and deeply without damaging it. He was intrigued. Thus began his lifelong investigation of the drug.
As the news spread, six pharmaceutical companies launched their clinical studies for the benefits of DMSO. In 1965, a woman from Ireland died of allergic reactions after taking several drugs along with DMSO. While the precise cause was supposed to be determined first, the FDA was quick to close down trials citing this death and negative results from animal trials which were subjected to doses many times higher than what is used as medical doses for humans.
Hundreds of laboratory and human studies followed and reported no deaths as a result. However, the FDA has denied 7 applications to officially conduct further clinical studies and only approved 1 for interstitial cystitis.
To cut it short, many researches have been done and written on its medical and clinical implications along with the effectiveness of DMSO against cancer. But as usual, the FDA thinks it is out of the mainstream of medical discourse and therefore not approved as a cancer treatment component. “It’s a square peg being pushed into a round hole,” as Dr. Jacob says.
The only FDA-approved medical use of DMSO is for interstitial cystitis. It is ironic and confusing that when a proposed treatment no matter how highly-effective it is if it concerns a disease which is a matter of life and death, “Money matters most.”
DMSO and Chemotherapy
In chemotherapy, DMSO reduces the side effects and the damage of radiation treatments in people with cancer. DMSO boosts the immune system and scavenges free radicals caused by these treatments. DMSO (applied topically) protects the body against the toxic effects of X-Rays.
Chemotherapy is not focused at killing cancer cells. It also destroys normal cells and toxifies normal cells that survive. Not later than 1968, researchers had discovered that Haematoxylon combined with DMSO would enhance the effect of chemotherapy on cancer cells and spare normal cells. Further update on the advancement of this research has not been published from then. However one thing has been proven, DMSO and Haematoxylon increases the efficiency of chemotherapy. At present, a PET Scan shows up the cancer cells in an X-Ray. A patient will take a solution of radioactive glucose. Since cancer cells consume 15 times more glucose than normal cells, the cancer cells will appear more visible.
Orthodox medicine therefore knows how to target cancer cells. That is for the interest of pointing which cell is cancerous; but with the intent to kill the cancer cells rather than simply make them show up on an X-Ray,…
DMSO/Chemotherapy Protocol does function for the purpose of targeting cancer cells and beyond that, killing them. But rather than using glucose to target cancer cells it uses DMSO (Dimethylsulfoxide).
Essentially:
1) The DMSO “binds” to (i.e. chemically attaches to) certain kinds of chemotherapy drugs, then
2) The DMSO then always targets cancer cells, and
3) The DMSO will drag the chemotherapy into the cancer cells, and
4) The chemotherapy (which is now able to target cancer cells) will kill the cancer cells.
DMSO restores aerobic metabolism in cancer cells. Once aerobic metabolism is reestablished, the previously cancerous cells will eventually be eliminated via apoptosis or programmed cell death, like normal cells.
Other Uses of DMSO
Because DMSO increases the rate of absorption of some compounds through organic tissues including skin, it can be used as a drug delivery system.
DMSO is an important constituent of cryoprotectant vitrification mixtures used to preserve organs, tissues, stem cells, and cell suspensions. Without it, up to 90 percent of frozen cells will become inactive.
DMSO is often used as a cream or ointment applied to the skin to reduce pain, decrease swelling, treat autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, and promotes healing in wounds and burns, and interstitial cystitis being the only FDA-approved medical use of DMSO.
Toxicity
Jacob Lab estimates that the oral lethal dose of a 50% solution of DMSO is estimated to be greater than 10 gm/kg. The chronic toxicity of DMSO is virtually non-existent as it is improbable that this dosage level could be obtained under normal use.
Bioavailability
DMSO has the ability to pass through every tissue and cell membrane of the body except the enamel of the teeth, fingernails and hair without destroying the integrity of tissues and cell membranes.
It is readily absorbed when administered topically onto human skin – peak levels occur after 4-8 hours.
Topical administered DMSO is slightly less bioavailable than orally ingested DMSO.
Orally ingested DMSO is rapidly absorbed and reaches a blood serum peak in 4 hours and becomes undetectable after 120 hours.
DMSO is an effective transporter of other substances that may not normally cross the blood-brain barrier because it readily crosses this separation of the circulating blood and cerebrospinal fluid.
DMSO is excreted from the body partly in an unchanged state and partly as its metabolite – Dimethyl Sulfoxone (DMSO2).
Where to Buy DMSO
This pioneer of DMSO research, Dr. Stanley Jacobs, has his own DMSO and MSM products. This is their website: www.http://jacoblab.com
DMSO Protocols
DMSO is often combined with other ingredients or supplements for a more effective cancer protocol. Among them are the following, arranged from what we assess is most effective to lesser efficacy.
Cesium Chloride – DMSO Protocol
When needed; especially for cancer patients who cannot take the cesium chloride orally; DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) allows cesium chloride to get inside the body transdermally (i.e. through the skin).
DMSO- Colloidal Silver Protocol
Chlorine Dioxide – DMSO Protocol
DMSO-Vitamin C Protocol
