Essiac can assist in a holistic cancer treatment. Essiac will not cure cancer alone but in combination with other herbs, juices and therapies, Essiac will boost cancer treatment effectiveness.
Essiac is a blend of herbs use to make tea that is believed by some to have cancer -treating properties. Essiac was originally used by Native Americans. The recipe was passed to a nurse named Rene Caisse.
Essiac Historical Medical Usage
One patient who was an Englishwoman had breast cancer. She had cured herself of breast cancer by using this combination prepared by a medicine man from the Ojibwa tribe. Caisse used the same formula on patients who were terminally ill. She claimed many cures and a staggering success rate. She obtained permission from the Canadian government to use this to treat people who were hopeless cases. In 1924 she decided to test the tea on her aunt who had cancer of the stomach and was given about six months to live. Her aunt lived for another 21 years, cancer free.
It took years for Caisse to refine and perfect the original “medicine man’s” formula. She tested various herbal combinations on laboratory mice and on human cancer patients. She eventually reduced the tea to four herbs: burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm and turkey rhubarb. She called the formula Essiac, which is her surname spelled backwards.
Rene Caisse operated her cancer clinic under the supervision and observation of a number of doctors.
Based on what those doctors saw with their own eyes, eight of them signed a petition to the Department of National Health and Welfare at Ottawa, asking that Nurse Caisse be given facilities to do independent research on her discovery. Their petition, dated at Toronto on October 27, 1926. Caisse reportedly healed thousands of terminal cancer victims with essiac in her clinic in the early ’20s, ’30s, and early ’40s.
Essiac Health Benefits
Essiac has become widely known for its remarkable ability to boost the immune system and detoxify the body. Many people who drink Essiac tea regularly report feeling healthier with less incidence of colds and flu. Prevents the buildup of excess fatty deposits in artery walls, heart, kidney and liver.
The Essiac regulates cholesterol levels by transforming sugar and fat into energy, destroys parasites in the digestive system and throughout the body, helps counteract the effects of aluminum, lead and mercury poisoning, strengthens and tightens muscles, organs and tissues. The tea makes bones, joints, ligaments, lungs, and membranes strong and flexible, consequently less vulnerable to stress or stress injuries.Nourishes and stimulates the brain and nervous system, promotes the absorption of fluids in the tissues, removes toxic accumulations in the fat, lymph, bone marrow, bladder, and alimentary canals. Essiac neutralizes acids, absorbs toxins in the bowel, and eliminates both.
Four Herbs Of Essiac
Essiac preparations may be able to inhibit tumor cell growth while enhancing immune response to antigenic stimulation. This may be especially valuable in immune-suppressed individuals.
Burdock Root(Arctium Lappa)
Studies have shown anti-tumor activity in burdock. A memorandum from the World Health Organization revealed that burdock was active against HIV. Burdock contains polyphenols and tannins which are known to be anti-neoplastic. Hungarian researchers showed that burdock root had anti-tumor activity due to inulin. The researchers found that inulin attached to white blood cells and enhanced immune function. They showed it also contains benzaledhyde which has significant anti-cancer effects in humans.Check Burdock Research
Sheep Sorrel(Rumex Acetosella)
No doubt the high vitamin C content is one reason the plant has been called one of the strongest antioxidant herbs we can use. Sheep sorrel has become very popular and as much sort after herb in the last few years, following the remarkable results of clearing the body of cancerous conditions. Sheep sorrel’s rutins and polysaccharides act to prevent tumors and other cancerous growths. The beta carotene contained in sheep sorrel acts as an antioxidant, increasing the production of white blood cells and T-cells (cancer-killing cells). The chlorophyll in sheep sorrel acts to purify the liver, promote regeneration of tissue, decrease swelling of the pancreas, strengthen cell walls, cleanse the blood, and may increase resistance to x rays. The oxalic acid also has antitumor and anticancer properties. Sheep sorrel has also been used to treat the side effects of chemotherapy.
Slippery Elm(Ulmus Rubra/Fulva)
The inner bark of the slippery elm tree is well-known for its soothing and healing properties. It reduces inflammations such as sore throat, diarrhea and urinary problems. It has been regarded as both a food and medicine. Dr. Moss noted that “slippery elm contains beta-sitosterol and a polysaccharide, both of which have shown [anti-cancer] activity. A powerful lung healer and aid for inflammed mucous membranes, slippery elm aids in colitis, ulcers and bronchitis.”
Turkey Rhubarb Root (Rheum Palmatum)
Turkey Rhubarb Root is thought to possess antibacterial, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties, which have made it useful for both internal and external inflammation and infection (skin eruptions, boils and carbuncles, etc.) and to promote healing (wounds, cold sores and burns, etc.). Teas made from Turkey Rhubarb have been said to help relieve infection caused by bacteria. Rhubarb root has been traditionally used to help cleanse the liver, stomach and blood. The root contains anthraquinones that act as stimulant laxatives and tannins that act as astringents. Rhubarb contains the carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin, which have been shown to have some anticancer activities.
Essiac Recipe
Dr. Gary Glum, a successful California chiropractor who specialized in treating world class athletes of all types had heard about Essiac’s healing qualities and started his search for the formula and recipe. He eventually came upon someone in Detroit, who chooses to remain anonymous, who was cured with Essiac of what was diagnosed as incurable cervical cancer. She had the original formula, and Gary bought it from her. Then Gary went to Canada to interview Mary McPhearson, a close personal friend and assistant to Nurse Caisse before Rene passed on in 1978. An affidavit passing the recipe to Mary McPhearson was made to continue making Essiac.

When near the last when its thick pour in a large jar and sit in frig overnight then pour off all you [can] without sediment.Use only ceramic or enameled pots and lids. Do not use stainless steel or especially aluminum.
Essiac Precaution
Some doctors advise against taking the herbal formula while pregnant or lactating women. The formula should not be prepared or stored in plastic or aluminum containers. Sunlight and freezing temperatures are believed to destroy the formula’s effectiveness. It is generally recommended that persons consult with their physician before treating any condition with essiac. It is important to remember that essiac is often used in combination with traditional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.
Essiac Recommended Dosage
The four main ingredients of essiac tea are sold separately and can be combined at home. Essiac tea is also marketed as tea bags and in bottles of the prepared formula. The formula is ready to use immediately.
When ready, the bottle is shaken to mix the sediments. Four tsp of the essiac formula are blended with 4 tsp of warm spring water. The usual daily dosage is 2–4 oz of tea for persons weighing 100–150 pounds and 2 oz for every 50 pounds over 150 pounds. Some alternative health practitioners recommend regular doses of essiac to strengthen the immune system and as a preventative for certain diseases, including cancer. The frequency ranges from daily to weekly.
